From Thomas Bachelder:
A stunning new terroir added to our lineup in 2022 – Corey Mio and his family have spent years building a beautiful vineyard on the Lincoln Lakeshore in Beamsville. Mio has an amazing vista – big sky country – gently sloped towards the lake. Mio is quite varied in soil makeup, located just below the bench and north of Highway 8. Right off the top, in the glass it is the darkest of the western Gamay Noir terroirs.
The nose displays a sheen of pretty fruit liqueur-like raspberry/currant/blueberry fruit, with a top note of orange zest. There is a delicious plummy vibe to the gorgeous fruit of Mio. What starts soft and rich in the mid-mouth continues with ever-so-slightly mentholated, iron-like flavours as the voluptuous finish goes out on a long glycerine texture. Incredible finesse for such a young vineyard – 4th leaf back in 2022!
