Every glass of whisky begins its life as poitín [potcheen]. Meaning “little pot”, poitín is an unaged Irish-style spirit. This example brings an Ottawa Valley spin, with local grain and distilled traditionally in a small copper pot still, for a true taste of the terroir of the grain.
Poitín is an excellent showcase of grain, without the influence of oak aging. In this bottle, we have unmalted barley, corn, and a unique hulless oat bred at Ottawa’s Experimental Farm.
Sip over ice to explore the terroir of the Ottawa Valley, or serve in lieu of vodka to add a sweet, biscuity essence to cocktails
Nose: hay, cut grass, malt
Palate: bran, oatmeal, pepper, slight smokiness
750mL, 45% alc./vol.
