Black Bank Hill 'Grand Vertical' Case

A real treat for the wine lover, this case presents the chance to see Black Bank Hill's evolution from first to second vintage. This 6-pack contains a bottle of every wine released so far plus a bonus 2019 Cab Franc. The highlight is a 'vertical' tasting of the winery's glorious Chardonnay, which has made a return for the 2019 vintage.

Included in this special Archives exclusive case:

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon,

Niagara Peninsula VQA.

85% Cabernet Sauvignon from Lakeview Vineyard, Twenty Mile Bench, blended with 15% Cabernet Franc from Creek Shores sub-appellation.  A lighter bodied Cabernet, delicious on its own or with foods.  Has been called ‘the BBQ wine of the summer’, there is a lovely red-fruit profile that opens to darker cherries and leather as it evolves in the glass.

2018 Chardonnay

Foxcroft Vineyard, Twenty Mile Bench VQA.

Extremely well-balanced Chardonnay in a classic style, showing citrus and stone fruits, good acidity, mid-palate creaminess, and a seam of smoke from a delicate treatment of oak.

2x 2019 Cabernet Franc,

Foxcroft Vineyard, Twenty Mile Bench VQA.

This is textbook Niagara Cabernet Franc from a revered 'grand cru' Niagara vineyard. This wine also points toward where this varietal is heading in our region.  Displaying the freshness of the vintage and just a seam of its varietal herbaceousness, there is a depth here that arises when paired with red meats. Good now, this wine will become exceptionally graceful after 5+ years in the cellar.

2019 Chardonnay,

Foxcroft Vineyard, Twenty Mile Bench VQA.

A direct follow up to the astounding dèbut 2018 Chardonnay, and from the same 2 rows of vines, but this time with 33% new French oak. The fruit is fresher and acids higher in the 2019 vintage, integrating wonderfully with the oak, producing an even bigger Chardonnay than the first vintage.

2019 Syrah,

Parke Vineyard, Twenty Mile Bench VQA.

Niagara Syrah you ask? Well, absolutely, yes! Normally associated with warmer climes like Australia or California, where it is known as Shiraz, this is a sleeper pick for the future great varietal in Ontario.  Niagara has proven itself capable of refining traditionally jammy-juicy big red varietals into extremely elegant, lean wines that are quickly gaining global repute. Here, this is fully ripened Syrah with a solid tannic structure, a medium body of dark fruit flavours, and notes of black and white pepper that reveal its cool climate breeding.
