A rich red blend from the cult favourites, this features some wine from the acid-led 2021 vintage and the more expressive 2019. The nose is fragrant, red berry fruit dominant, with herbal, smoky and toasted wood tones. There is so much going on already. The palate is dry with a fresh and ripe “juicy” quality.
For wine wonks, there is (as always with Big Head), lots going on of interest. The blend is
39% 2021 Cabernet Franc (fresh)
29% 2019 Cabernet Franc (appassimento)
27% 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (fresh)
4% 2019 Petit Verdot (fresh)
1% 2019 Merlot (appassimento)
There were also some interesting winemaking techniques used including 100% carbonic maceration and some élevage in Macedonian Oak. Very cool.
