It's a great honour for us to share a fledgling boutique craft winery in Niagara's Vinemount Ridge appellation. Its not everyday you get to be among the first to present a new winemaker, and Urban Tractor Farm's got us particularly excited.
Gord and Paula Maretzki purchased their Beamsville farm in 2009, moving from the big city for the simpler life. This 'simple' life entailed the hard work of restoring and rejuvenating the neglected acreage back to vibrant ecologically-balanced farmland. The systematic work of rebuilding the soil through restorative farming practices has resulted in an excellent site to plant cool climate grape varietals.
In 2018, the first blocks of vines were planted; a block of Seyval Blanc and a block of Baco Noir. In 2020 a small tonnage of Seyval Blanc was harvested. It was only then that Urban Tractor Farm became one of Niagara's newest estate wineries.
In addition to the estate grown blocks, the Maretzki’s partner with small, local growers and focus on varietals that do well in our climate.
The ever-introspective Gord describes his winemaking style as postmodern; bringing out the best in varietal and overall terroir whilst seeking harmony between the ancient ways and modern sustainable practices.
We invite you to discover this new winery exclusively through Archives and share in the deep passion Gord and Paula put into their bottles.
